Suzy Le Speed

It is so nice not to feel desperate. Hackles lie down and rest awhile. Misery is merely a habit.

Buoyed by the recent publication process, I am prepping my P.I. novel for same. The joy I feel is comparable to playing with Emmett, back in the day—pure, unadulterated happiness.

Here’s a slice of Shoulds are for Saints: the true life adventures of Suzy Le Speed, set in 1980s Los Angeles—

“Whoa! Lady! You have very muscular legs.” I’d parked my car at home and was walking down Lincoln Boulevard to the grocery store. This idiot on the corner decides to share his innermost thoughts and feelings with me. Like I care.

“And you have a very big mouth,” I reply.

“What are you, some kinda wrassler? A mountain climber?” he continues, undeterred. They rarely are.

“No,” I say, “a hired assassin.” He decides on an alternate route.
