Bisexual is not a synonym for promiscuous. I recently read two casual slurs against bisexuals, by folks who should know better.
Let me clear this up right now: bisexual is a word that simply means gender is irrelevant, attraction-wise. It does not mean a smorgasbord of sexual activity. It means that a specific person appeals to me, regardless of gender. That’s all. That’s it.
To wit, there are great swaths of humanity I am not drawn to. Occasionally—a woman with long pink braids, or a man who studies the ocean—I feel that tug. I cannot predict it. It happens or it doesn’t.
In college, I came across a sticker that read, I’m bisexual and I’m still not attracted to you. I proudly wore it to class, and was amused when a guy—who had heretofore shown no interest in me—took umbrage.
Yes, there are promiscuous bisexuals, just as there are promicuous heterosexuals and homosexuals. Promiscuous humans.
Personally, I haven’t shared body fluids with anyone in decades. I am a tender-hearted romantic—casual flings are not my modus operandi. I’ve always been monogamous too, so put that in your pipe and smoke it, lascivious ones, and get your minds out of the gutter—and out of my life.
