Come Sail Away

Sometimes it takes a long time to get back to all right. Been ten years since I exited Olympia and began looking for a home by the sea. Took awhile to realize I could choose a boat instead of a house. Today I wired a 10% deposit on Habibi and contacted a marine surveyor to make sure she’s fit for the sea. Soon I will be a marine surveyor my ownself.

Not only am I smiling, I am breathing deeply, so I know it is the right decision. “Come Sail Away” plays on my headphones, and tears track down my cheeks.

After a lot of back and forth, a date is set for the survey and sea trial — next Friday! Habibi will be hauled out of the water for all to see and assess.

“Which one is yours?” asks a sailor at the marina. He’s caught me admiring her from ashore after scheduling the travel lift.

“Habibi,” I grin.

“Oh, nice boat.”

Yep.
